SMPP Driver: Introduction & requirements
The Short Message Peer to Peer (SMPP) is an open, industry standard protocol designed to provide a flexible data communication interface for the transfer of short message data between External Short
Message Entities (ESME) and Message centers.
The SMPP protocol allows the sending of Short Messages (SMS) using a simple TCP/IP connection.
The ALERT SMPP Driver (ESME) connects to a SMPP server/Short Message Service Center (SMSC) which allows the transmission (sending and receiving) of the Short Messages to the Mobile Network, see graphic below.
