FX30 Modem : Micromedia application updated

Attention: In order to update the Micromedia application of the FX30 modem, it is necessary to contact Micromedia support in order to obtain the download link of the Micromedia application that can be installed.

Prerequisites :

Before upgrading your modem, you need to have the following 2 items:

  • The Sierra Wireless USB driver for Windows to connect the modem to USB for the update. You can download it from the link below:

Driver USB FX30

  • SiwiUpdate software version 2.0.0.5 (18/08/2022). This software is used to program and update the modem. You can download it from the link below:

SiwiUpdate

  • The Micromedia application for the FX30 modem supplied by Micromedia

Good practice:

  • As the FX30 modem is based on an embedded system, start-up is not instantaneous.
  • Using a DOS terminal to continuously ping the FX30 modem verifies accessibility.
  • Micromedia applications also run when the FX30 modem is launched. Access to the various SSH / VOIP / SMPP services is not immediate.

1. Connecting to the FX30 Modem :

The Micromedia application can be updated via a network connection or a USB connection. How to set up a USB connection is explained in the following article. FX30 : Mise à jour du Firmware

Launch the SiwiUpdate software:

Select "Ethernet" in the SSH Legato section:

Enter the IP address of the FX 30 modem in the "IP Address" field and the modem's IMEI number in the "Password" field, then click on the "Connect" button:

2. Shutdown of Micromedia application services :

Click on the "Modem Properties" tab :

Locate the "Legato Applications" section:

Services whose names are highlighted in green must be stopped. The following 4 services must be stopped:

  • alarmService
  • licService
  • sipServer
  • smppServer

Right-click on one of these services and select "stop Service_Name":

The service status changes to "stopped" and the service name is now highlighted in red:

Perform the same operation on the other 3 services.

3. Updating Micromedia applications :

Click on the "Application Update" tab:

Click on the "..." button:

Select the file "https://ipsmssystem.wp76xx.1_x_x.update%22/ and click on the "Open" button:

Click on the "Update" button to launch the application update:

While the Micromedia application is being updated, execute a "Ping" command in a command terminal to monitor the modem's restart:

The update may take about ten minutes. Once the ping is restored, reconnect to the FX 30 modem to check the application version:

Locate the "Legato Applications" section and check the version of the 4 services:

  • alarmService
  • licService
  • sipServer
  • smppServer

The update is now complete.
